Michael Wills, MP for North Swindon, has today welcomed a new £100m government commitment to accelerate the emergence of the greener vehicles of tomorrow.
As part of this, motor manufacturers will be invited to bid for the opportunity to participate in a £10 million project to run electric car and ultra low carbon vehicle demonstration projects, over seen by the Technology Strategy Board. This will see around 100 electric cars provided to allow families and other motorist the opportunity to feedback the practical steps needed to make greener motoring an everyday reality.
Michael said:
‘I welcome this new government investment in greener cars. This fund presents an exciting opportunity for Swindon Borough Council to work closely with the government and the town’s automobile industry to see how it can get involved and put Swindon at the forefront of green technology.
‘I have been begging Swindon Borough Council for over three years to develop a genuinely green transport policy and now there is a chance to get into partnership with the government and Swindon’s automobile manufactures. I hope they’ll do it.
‘As always, I am willing to work with Swindon Borough Council on this and I hope they will work with me and Anne Snelgrove to explore this exciting new opportunity for Swindon.’
