PS7 Update - June 2008

As residents will know, I have conducted a campaign to press Swindon Borough Council to build PS7, a new primary school in Oakhurst. The council claimed, wrongly, the Government had not given them enough money to build this much-needed school.

I organised a meeting with Swindon Borough Council and the Schools Department. After that the Council had to admit that the Government had made adequate funding available and they finally announced that they would open a temporary school on the PS7 site in September 2008. However, within a week they reversed this decision. They are now working towards opening a temporary school on the site from September 2009 and opening a permanent school on site in September 2010.  I understand it is to be a two form entry school, and project board has been set up. However given the broken promises about this school, detailed in my letter to SBC of 28 January 2008, posted below, I remain deeply concerned about the way the council handled this issue, and I will be keeping up the pressure to ensure that this school is now built as promised.PS7 Letter
